The Edge of Heaven (German: Auf der anderen Seite, literally On the Other Side, Turkish: Yaşamın Kıyısında) is the 2007 Turkish-German drama that Fatih Akın wrote and directed. The film has won the Prix du Scénario in the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, Germany was the best foreign language film category in 2007 Oscar, but not nominated.
After doing the first time in the Cannes Film Festival in France, the film was shown in several international film festivals. It was released on 27 September 2007 in Germany.
The Edge of Heaven Synopsis
Nejat seems disapproving about his widower father Ali’s prostitute Yeter for a live-in girlfriend. However, when he discovers that she sent money to Turkey, her daughter for university studies, he is growing fond of him. Yeter’s sudden death create distance between father and son.
Nejat is going to Istanbul to call the girl’s daughter Ayten. The political activist Ayten ran away from the Turkish police and is already in Germany. She befriends Lotte, a young woman who invites Rebel Ayten to stay at her house; This is an unwelcome gesture for her conservative mother, Susanne.
When Ayten is arrested and her asylum request is rejected, she is deported and imprisoned in Turkey. Lotte travels to Turkey and gets caught up in a seemingly hopeless situation that seems to save Ayten.
