
Marriage Equality Laws In Costa Rica
Costa Rica became the first Central American country to legalize same-sex marriage. Marriage of homosexuals has become legal in Costa Rica. The celebrations planned to be held before were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The first marriage was held in the virtual environment for the participation of guests between the two women and the ceremony was broadcast live on television.
“It will bring an important social and transformation to this that allows thousands of people to get married,” said Costa Rica President Carlos Alvarado. “Our goal is to combat all forms of discrimination,” said Alvarado.
The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) said on Twitter: “Costa Rica is celebrating today: Marriage equality has become reality. For the first time in Central America, it was congratulated and everyone who contributed to take this step was congratulated.
Costa Rica became the eighth country in the Americas to recognize gay marriages in the Americas and where Catholic Christianity was strong.
